Learning to Read!
- Ask your child to read a story to you
- Allow your child to choose the book they want to read
- Set out a time each day for reading together
- Practice what you preach! Make sure you read for pleasure too!
- Ask engaging and open-ended questions about the book to ensure your child understands what they are reading
Choosing Books:
- Use a variety of genres
- Make sure your child will be interested in the story
- Make sure the book is on their reading level
- Learn about the author of the book
- If it is a new genre, be sure to introduce the genre
