Island: A Story of the Galapagos
By: Jason Chin
Picture Book
Summary: This book teaches the history of the Island of Galapagos, all the way from when it was first created. The island was formed through volcanic eruptions in which lava had hardened. Then, all it took was a little seed to float over to the island and life began. Soon enough, birds, turtles, penguins, and many other animals made the Island of Galapagos their home. However, their house was not permanent because it was very slowly sinking and changes in weather and the ecosystem came. In order for the animals to stay alive, they needed to adapt by surviving and reproducing. This is how Charles Darwin got to his theory of evolution.

Old Penn Station
By: William Low
Picture Book
Summary: When the Pennsylvania Railroad Company was built, it went all over the U.S. except for New York because of the Hudson River. Passengers who wanted to go to New York had to get off at the New Jersey stop and take the ferry over the river. Finally, in 1910 a station was built in Manhattan, New York and it was called Pennsylvania Station. The new train station was very popular at first, until highways and cars were the preferred way to travel. Eventually, the Pennsylvania Station could not afford to stay open and had to be knocked down and the people were not happy! Today, it is only a memory and a reminder that buildings serve as an important feature to that city.
